About The Whitehall Wedding Venue
Horatio Sharpe, the last Provincial Governor of Maryland, built Whitehall’s gorgeous mansion in 1764. He built the home as a place to entertain, with picturesque waterfront views and sprawling acres of Maryland fields, meadows, and forests. The house is considered the finest example of Palladian architecture in the United States, with incredibly ornate details like intricate carvings and moldings.
Whitehall was actually the first National Historic Landmark designated in the state of Maryland after being purchased by Mr. Charles Scarlett in the 1940s. Scarlett poured his heart and soul into restoring the home to its authentic former glory, and his estate still honors and maintains the Whitehall property.
In 2015, Whitehall announced that it would open its doors for a limited number of weddings and special events yearly. Today, it is still known for entertaining large groups in celebration, sharing the property’s stunning views and home with new guests every year.
Details of the Grounds
Whitehall is home to over 135 acres of fields, parks, and gardens over a mile of the Chesapeake Bay shoreline. Its stunning grounds are one of the biggest draws of this magnificent venue, allowing couples to take advantage of its extraordinary vistas and wildlife.
Couples and their respective wedding parties can prepare for the wedding day in suites within the mansion, decorated with vintage furnishings and decor. These spaces are ideal for stunning getting-ready shots and portraits with colorful walls and ornate architectural features in the background.

For your reception, you are welcome to rent an event tent on the property, as small or large as you need to accommodate your guest list. Whitehall hosts events of up to 600 guests, so you won’t have to cut back on your list in regards to venue space! Providing your own tent also means you have unlimited options for your wedding décor and design, giving you a blissfully beautiful and blank canvas for your dream event.

Whitehall’s stunning property is ideal for epically romantic wedding photos. We’ll wander the meadows for incredible shots that feature the historic mansion in the background for a stately aesthetic. The waterfront is stunning any time of day, but even more so at Golden Hour, with the sunset reflecting off the water. Inside the mansion, we can take beautiful formal portraits that will transport you and your partner to a different era, full of vintage vibes, unique colors, and architecture.
