Experience the Charm of a Potomac View Terrace Wedding in DC

When you’re planning your DC wedding, there’s a good chance you want to incorporate all the iconic monuments without bringing in all the monumental crowds. If that’s the case, a Potomac View Terrace wedding might just be the best option for you. This hidden gem finds a way to pay homage to the area without bringing you the same headaches. As a DC wedding photographer, I get the chance to see some of the best venues in action, and I would love to give you a guide for what you can expect from a Potomac View Terrace wedding.

About The Potomac View Terrace Wedding Venue

2215 Constitution Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20037

Potomac View Terrace is the only privately-owned building on the National Mall. The center was constructed in 1932 and was originally known as the American Institute of Pharmacy. The designs came from John Russell Pope, the same mind behind the National Archives and the Jefferson Memorial. The building was expanded in 2009 to include the Potomac View Terrace on the sixth floor. While the space continues to serve as the American Pharmacists Association headquarters, it has spent the past decade throwing some pretty unforgettable celebrations.

Details of the Grounds

The exterior of the building has the same limestone facade as the surrounding monuments. There are large green shrubs on either side of the grand entrance with multiple levels of steps leading up to the door. The rooftop overlooks the monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

Potomac View Terrace primarily functions as an outdoor wedding venue, providing you with some of the best views of the city as your ceremony backdrop. Many couples choose to use the landing in front of the building to exchange vows. You can also use the rooftop overlooking DC for this portion. You will have your reception on the rooftop with the Lincoln Memorial promptly in view. The area has a retractable roof, which many people choose to utilize for this portion. You can also tent the sides. You will be able to work with the venue to set up a bar on the exterior of the building so your guests can enjoy your signature cocktails. The venue can accommodate up to 250 guests.

The venue does not have designated dressing rooms. Many couples choose to rent out a hotel at one of the many hotels around the National Mall so they have a luxurious space to put on the
finishing touches. Following your reception, you’ll also have a nearby place to crash.
