The entrance of the hotel exudes elegance and luxury, making it a great photo location for your Hay-Adams Wedding

About The Hay-Adams Wedding Venue

The Hay-Adams was named after John Hay, secretary to President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State, and Henry Adams, a Harvard professor and historian who was also a descendant of presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Built in the 1920s as a residential hotel, the building stands as a testament to their legacy, honoring their service and dedication to our country. While the hotel has been renovated and updated to include modern amenities, it still maintains many of its original historic features. It has even hosted remarkable figures such as Theodore Roosevelt and Mark Twain!

Today, the Hay-Adams Hotel is home to a range of rooms and suites that are perfect for hosting wedding guests in search of a convenient place to stay. Plus, if your wedding hosts 100 or more guests, you and your partner will receive a complimentary suite on the night of your wedding!

Details of the Grounds

The Hay-Adams has several stunning and unique spaces that are perfect for hosting lavish, formal weddings.

The Top of the Hay is the crown jewel of the Hay Adams, with panoramic views of Washington DC – including the best view of the White House anywhere in the area. With gorgeous French doors and a bright, airy rooftop aesthetic, there is no compromising grandeur for quality here.

If you prefer something a little more rustic and warm, the beautiful Hay-Adams room features rich woodwork and two working gas fireplaces. Intimate detailing carved into the woodwork, textured ceilings, and tiered brass chandeliers add a classic vintage appeal.

Lastly, the intimate Concorde Room is inspired by the Belle Époque style. It features bold and beautiful hand-painted wallpaper, crystal chandeliers, and elegant drapery.

However you choose to use these spaces, whether for your ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception, your wedding is sure to be elegant and memorable.

Photography Opportunities

One of the most iconic wedding photo opportunities at the Hay-Adams is from the balcony of Top of the Hay, overlooking an incredible view of the White House and the Washington Monument. This portrait of you and your partner will feel quintessentially DC and will undoubtedly be one of your favorite pictures of the day. Many couples also choose to take additional photos at a nearby park or location for more options simply since this downtown venue has limited outdoor space. The front of the Hay-Adams also makes for a great backdrop for some images with an elegant, downtown feel!

Wedding Details

A Hay-Adams wedding has its own catering team, led by executive chef Nicolas Legret, will happily help you curate a wedding menu you and your partner will be proud to share as your first married meal together. With space for up to 200 guests, you can throw a wedding that is as opulent or as intimate as you can dream. Treat them to an event they’ll never forget, celebrating one of their favorite couples in the world – you and your partner!
